How loud is the stock exhuast straitpiped? Is it too loud for daily driving. I would like the mbrp on my truck, but dont feel like laying out the $500 right now. With no chip, and just intake, the stock exhaust should be efficient. Stock 2000 7.3 has a 3.5 down pipe as well correct?
In reading through this forum, I have found a few answers, but I have ran across something that is puzzling me. Saturday's moringing temperature was about 26 degrees. I have read through previous forums about the 1200 rpm idle mod. When I started the truck Saturday, it idled at normal (about 750 rpm) for a few minutes, then kicked it up to about 1100. Touching the brake or accelerator would bring it back down, but a few moments later, it would kick back up. Is this the EBVP that KWIK is talking about? With the straight pipe, it sounds like a jet getting ready to take off.
mine did the exact same thing this morning. About 33 degrees and cranked it up (normal idle) walked in the house and it sounded like the damn truck was about to take off for flight. Got in the truck and it was idling around 1100 and i taped the accelorator and it came back down.
Higgins, did you just cut out the stock piece of stainless and weld in the almunized to fit? I would like to do this to mine this weekend? Let me know.
I just had my muffler cut out today at a local muffler shop $40 for them to do it and supply the pipe...Sounds great and the turbo seems to spool a little better
LOL I have 4" turbo back straight piped exiting in front of the back tire and I have a DP Tuner chip that I switch to High Idle at 1200rpm and in the morning when the EBPV kicks in, it sounds like I am preparing for flight. At 30mph driving through the subdivision with the EBPV still on, and the back window down(heater on of course), it is AWWEEESSSOOOMMMMEEEE
Buddha, that is what the local shop charged me. It does sound sweet. Had a local Barney Fife stop me the other night. He wanted to know what I had done. The he tried to sell me a Banks 6-Gun kit he had bought, then swapped trucks (he went to a chebby) before he could install it. He wanted $2,500 for the kit. After what I have read on the forums here, I politely told him no thanks. I really don't need it. I found the new style 6.0 intercooler off of a wreck (train trashed the truck). They were going to crush it. It did not cost me anything. Going to get it installed with the wicked wheel and change the exhaust out this spring. Then I will let Jody have at it. He is only 200 miles away.
