Well the trailer is moved. I am actually somewhat impressed with the way the SD did the job. Obviously it has no problem with initial take off while in lower gears.... yeah it is slower than normal but it was no means unbearable. The truck really had no problem keeping it right below or at the speed limit. I could have gone over the speed limit, but I was just using a standard ball mount and it was windy so I had sway most of the trip!
The 5.4 was purring along at around 2K keeping the truck at 60 most of the trip. One spot I encountered a long steep grade and was able to keep the rig at 50 with the tach at 3K. I was actually gaining speed a little, but I wasn't pushing it. As long as I didn't slow down I didn't care.
So all in all.. With a trailer that empty weighs 6950 and a trailer which has at least 200# of my tools in it.. Plus living materials, TV's, ETC. I think the truck did well.
I would like to have a PSD.. But now at least I know I have a truck that will do the job until I can find my PSD!
I have an 02 with the 2v 265hp version of the 5.4, it will do fine. I have towed over 6k quite a few times and as stated I worried more about stopping than going as the brakes on the trailer were so so. But with good brakes on the trailer you should have nothing to worry about. Yes, the 5.4 is the baby motor of the Superdutys, but it is a whole lot better than many previous generation motors in all the brands of trucks and I consistantly get 15mpg empty and on a recent trip of all highway, got 17.9,,, works for me, glmf
ON edit, didn't see the page two thing so a little late with my post, figured it would work out like it did, if you had a weight distribution hitch, things would have been real smooth as you noted, good luck, glmf
