Westerns
Pale Rider
Silverado
these are better
:THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE (I may be young, but I am not uneducated
)(Wayne and Stewart, how can you go wrong?)(unless I'm confusing two movies cause I'm tired)I think(I know I shouldn't) that the ONLY modern, or post-modern, western that has been made to this day, IMHO, is Kevin Costners The Postman, In the sense that it does not take place in the 1800's - 19th century
In that same vane, I also have to mention LAST MAN STANDING with Bruce Willis, as my pick for the best western of the 1900's - 20th centruy(I think The Postman took place after the year 2000?)
Again, it is late, I have forgotten many many good and possibly better movies, but for these three to stand out so vividly in my head when i am tired, well, I must like them!
Anyone watch Bonanza on TVLand these days? Man, I had a Bonanza lunchbox in 1st grade, and was a big fan. But now I find it almost unwatchable - plodding acting, especially Hoss and Pa. Hard to figure how westerns were the most popular shows back then.

four-sixty power - You made a great choice with the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Duke, Stweart, Lee Marvin, Denver Pyle, Woody Strode, Edmond O'Brien, Strother Martin, and the one and only Andy Devine. It makes my short list of the best of the best. - Print the Legend!
mightypan42 - McClintock, IMHO, is a movie that was screaming for a sequel. I mean so many loose ends. Will Maureen O'Hara really settle down? Will GW's daughter marry Patrick Wayne? (Is that incest?) What about the uprising? And will Chill Wills get another chance to stand up and holler "Woo-eee People People!!" A lot of unanswered questions. AND YES, That's Herman Munster's wife cooking in the kitchen.

Lonesome Dove was a great mini-series. So I didn't count it.
The Wild Bunch and The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean have their moments, but they didn't make my list.
I'll have to post more than once. This is a topic I'm opinionated about.
Best Buddy Picture - Butch & Sundance
Best Spag. Western - Fist Full of Dollars (TGTBTU is too long and I have a problem with the landscapes used in the Civil War battle scenes).
Best Early James Stewart - Destry Rides Again
Best Later James Stewart - The Man from Laramie (Although there were other great ones.)
Best W/ a Sequel - True Grit / Rooster Cogburn and the Lady
Best remake of a Japanese Film - Magnificent Seven
Best Western for Christmas - The 3 Godfathers (John Wayne, Pedro?, Harry Carey Jr., ward Bond)
Best Native American POV - Dances With Wolves
Best Range War Movie - Blood on the Moon (Robert Mitchum)
Best Made-For_TV Movie - Conagher (Sam Eliot, Katherine Ross, Barry Corbin with Ken Curtis and Dub Taylor) Story by Louis La'Mour and made for TNT.
Best Impossible Odds Movie - The Searchers
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
A couple mentioned ElDorado. I never cared for it much. But the same story, basically, is told in Rio Bravo with the Duke, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, Walter Brennan, Ward Bond and Police Woman. It even features a little musical part in the middle of the flick.
Best Cattle Drive Movie - Cowboy with Jack Lemon and Glen Ford rank up there, but I like Red River better. (Walter Brennan and Harry Carey Sr. are probably the reason.)
Best Movie the Falls Short, even though you really want it to be good - The Wagon Master. Ben Johnson and Harry Carey Jr. with Ward Bond.
Best MODERN Western - The Rounders (Glen Ford and Henry Fonda)
Best Rip van Winkle Experience film - The Last Outlaw (Harry carey and Hoot Gibson)
Best Final Film by a Legend - The Shootist.
Best Film Set in Alaska - There are others too, but I really like The Spoilers (John wayne, Randolph Scott and Harry Carey)
Another great RS film is Ride the High Country.
BEST OVER ALL - Tall in the Saddle. Never heard of it? You got your John Wayne, your Gabby Hayes and Ward Bond. You got your stage coach and card games and shoot outs, and horse chases. You got your witty dialog, your crusty old timers, your upity eastern woman and even a romance so the GF doesn't ask for the remote control. It's a western, it's a mystery. It's my BEST OVER ALL WESTERN!
I like most John Wayne and Eastwood Westerns, Shane, Dances with Wolves, and The Wild Bunch.
they still call me trinity
the sons of trinity
anyone else seen the trinitys?
