I need to tap into the rear back up light wire preferably in the cab to power a 3 way swich to power a set on rear aux. back up lights.Anyone know the location and color of the wire to the back up lights? The switch allows the lights 3 positions; off,on automatically when the truck is in reverse,or always on.Does anyone have any suggestions on the easiest way to wire this switch in the cab? Then I need to run a wire through the firewall to a relay in the engine compartment. Any suggestion for gettig the wire through the firewall or taping into an existing wire that that goes through the firewall that is not being used?My truck is an 05 f350 Crew Cab.Thanks
If ypu have a trailer package there is a wire in back for trailer lights. Mine is blue if I remember correctly and it goes to the trailer connector. I don't know about 05 colors.
Are you looking to have more light in the back?
If so, many of have installed another light in the rear for that purpose. Switched either on the backup lights or a toggle in the cab, or on a relay, many choices.
I am putting two aux. IPF backup lights in the rear and need to tap into the wire that controls the trucks back up light. I want to tap into this wire in the cab and run it to a 3 way switch.. The switch is a 3 way mounted in the cab. That allows off, always on or comes on where the truck is put into reverse, thats why I need to tap the wire to the trucks rear back up lights. From the switch a wire goes though the firewall to a relay I mounted in the engine compartment with a heavy wiring harness to the battery and from the relay to the aux. rear lights. Thanks
Thanks for the help to get the wire through the firewall but I need to find the factory wire to the rear back up lights in the cab? The factory rear back up light wire location and it's colors Thanks
check the owners manual it will list the fuse number. so then go to the fuse box and find that fuse and tap into the circuit(after the fuse) so it is a protected circuit.
I am looking for the same wire but to put in a cut out (relay) so I can interrupt the circuit and the lights will not come on. I am doing this because I need to sneek up on people in the dark who trespass on my property to steal. I have found the brake and parking lights but the back up wire elludes me. The fuse box is not much help because the fuses plug into a circuit board without the corresponding wires going directly out the back of it, they exit in plugs not necessarily next to the fuse. The funny thing is the owners manual does not even tell you what fuse is for the back up lights! Any help is appreciated.
Slippery, I remember someone saying BR/WH.
Just curious, been to LB before, how can you sneak up on anybody there?
Did you want to do a disable from the rear lamps or from the fuse panel?
Hey Steve, your right it was Br/Wh on the back of the fuse block nowhere near the actual fuse! I wanted to disable from the fuse block. My property is actually in the Taft area near Bakersfield, it gets dark there!

If you locate the fuse in the fuse box Bussman Fuses makes a connector that will allow you to tap into the power source and fuse the circuit that you are connecting to separately. The link below will give you a better idea of what i am talking about. Take it from a parts guy, this is by far the easiest way to safely tap into a stock power source whether it be a key-on-hot (which by the way these are excellent for) or what you guys are trying to accomplish while still protecting your vehicle. By the way if you cant tell from the picture there are slots for two fuses. One protects the stock circuit and the other the accessory circuit. If you go to your local parts store, most of them will have to order this. I think the part number is BP/HHH and it is made for the ATM or MINI fuses.
