1979 F350 swapped out C6 and installed 4-speed along with a 460. C6 has neutral safety switch, cannot find any kind of NSS on 4-speed or clutch pedal. How do I bypass the C6 switch so I can start with key, and how can I add something so the clutch has to be in to start ? building truck for 16yr old son and need safety switch !!!
At the top -middle of the firewall there should be a grey connector.
This contains the NSS wiring.
In that you can run a loop wire to by-pass the switch.
Do this only if you feel it is safe enough for the people who drive this truck as this will allow starter crank in gear for a manual trans.
You can by a universal brake switch and wire it into those 2 wires Million is talking about, and mount it on the clutch pedal. Most of the older chevies have a white pushbutton switch for a brake switch, they are easy to make a bracket for and have a long threaded shaft for adjustment.
??? Take it easie EricJ, No offense intended on the Cheve parts, just giving optional choices.
I know, I was kidding. I used to install cruise control and the kits came with the chevy switches for the clutch pedals, they were real easy to adapt. that funky ford switch that slips over the pivot was a pita
Funny thing you would want a clutch safety switch. My wife got in my 78 F250 and hit the switch without putting in the clutch. -She pushed my daughter's car thru a brick wall... Some people are not used to non-idiot proof technology.

I would love to hook up the OEM manual safety switch, my doner 79 the 4-spped cme out of did not have one that I can find anywhere, only the wire that hooks to the tranny that I assume is for the reverse light.

I hear you! I get in my 79 and hit the starter without thinking. So far I have cought myself before metal dammage (or worse) happens.
Do these kits come with a bracket and switch and can they be bought as a kit seperately? Where are these sold and for how much?
no but it should be easy to fabricate, just a piece of flatstock with a 1/2 inch hole for the switch, bend to fit. You can pickup short pieces of flatstock at most hardware stores.
