e 150 towing capacity question

Hello folks, this is my first time here, this place is great! I have a 93 e 150 coversion by tiara. I have to move out to AZ and was thinking about pulling a car trailer (enclosed) with a wrangler and all my boxes, tools, etc. What is the towing capacity of the e 150? Also, is there anything I should know without finding out the hard way? Any help would be great. Thanks

You haven't given us the engine size or rear end ratio, but most van conversions are approaching their gvw without trying to tow a trailer. The highest GCWR I find for an E150 is 12,000lbs with maximum trailer at 6,600lbs. Thats with a 5.8 and 3.55 rear end. All other engine/rear end combos are rated lower, as low as 9,000lbs GCWR and 3600lbs trailer. It sounds to me like you will be loaded a little heavy.

Jak, I wouldn't recommend it, but for a one shot haul, I would do it. There are reasons not to do it, but sometimes a fellow has to do what a fellow has to do.

Think it out for balance, you don't want your tongue weight to heavy or light. I'm sure the van will be packed out too.

Take er slow and easy, keep extra distance for stopping and you should make it in one piece.

good luck

John

Do you have a second driver? Think about pulling a smaller enclosed trailer with the Econoline and having somebody else drive the Jeep with an even smaller trailer if necessary. Just a thought, that is a long drive with a 12 -13 year old vehicle loaded to the gills.

you guys are allright!!!!

First and foremost.... thanks for the help... I still haven't figured out what I am going to do. I do have a second driver for the Jeep, but you guessed it, it's my wife... that means as soon as i get up to sixty five.... another bathroom break. I don't know that my nerves can handle it. Now for the great news. Two days ago, I got the greatest deal of my life. I bought a 04' f-150 xlt lariat 4 x4 with every single option that they could squeeze into that truck including the electric toneau cover. 56k on it. Get this $16,900. It didn't have any of the manuals or such so I am now looking into what that can pull. Again guys, thank you. And now nobody can ever tell you that you don't know Jakschit, cause now you do.

I thought you were trying to figure how to move all that stuff with just one driver. I must have dosed off.

What'd you do? Trade the van in for the mini truck? Or now do you need three drivers? LOL!
