oil choices
From the points you make. It really all boils down to common sense which I think the big oil companies do more at attempts to take that common sense away with all these diffenet maketing strategies, and products that are suppose to be new and improved.
Would you agree?

Many products are like this, yet,in comparisons of some of these products people either cant tell them apart or actually pick what they consider to be the 'generic' version.
This type of test was shown not long ago on one of the TV news type programs regarding generic foods.
People picked the generics over the name brands in some of the tests.
People are falling for the advertisements that claim that this oil is better than that oil, what people seem to overlook is that the maker of the oil is the one making the claim, not an independant study.
We read on the bottles of oil how an oil exceeds API standards.
This is easily done by adding more of one chemical to the oil above what is reqiured.
It is similar to this.I take an oil to get tested by API.It passes.
I then add 1% more calcium,an oil additive,to the mix.
I now have an oil that exceeds API standards.
The oil that I first used already met standards but I have now exceeded that standard by making the oil clean better.
This claim of cleaning better would come from my own tesing of the product.
The catch here is that while I have an oil that exceeds API standards,it only does so by a very small percentage.
I then make the statement on my oil that it exceeds API standards and charge more for it.
And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!
Stop saying "You get what you pay for".
You always get what you pay for. I use ST oil, I get a good oil at a way good price. (around $5 for 5 quart bottle) I have a kid working for me who uses Mobil 1. He gets a good oil at a way bad price. (nearly $5 a quart) I use ST two cycle oil in my snowmobiles. I get a good oil for a way good price. (about $6 a gallon) I have riding buddys that use Polaris, Arctic Cat or Yamaha oil. They get a good oil for a way bad price. (around $18 to $25 a gallon)
I agree your point though, price does not always equal quality. I believe any API rated oil is "good enough". The same applys to tcw3 two stroke oil.
