Lincoln Ignition Problems...

My friend has an '89 Town car with the 5.0 EFI motor. Recently, it's been developing a bad miss under part throttle. I first thought it was something as simple as a TPS, but after looking into it and testing it, the TPS is fine.

Now, I think it has to do with the ignition system, but I have no experience with the Duraspark II system. When I came to the ignition, I thought it would be an easy cap, rotor, wires, and plugs job. But, the more i think of it, since the car runs great at idle and anything over 1/2 throttle, I think it might have something to do with the spark advance system. Could it be not advancing enough at part throttle? What would be a good way to test the system? I'm afraid all this shuddering will trash the driveline if it keeps being driven!

Thanks for the help!

Mine has the same problem.

I will assume that checking & either cleaning or replacing certain ignition parts will cause it to leave.

Wires along could cause it.

I would check the wires, plugs, & distributor cap contacts before replacing any parts.

I wish I could stand on my legs long enough to do to my all that I mentioned.

yeah, I'm having a similar problem...my back is so screwed up I can't stay hunched over the motor for long enough!

That's why I'm hoping for a quick fix!

Check your fuel pressure. I had a Crown Vic do the same thing yours is, I chased the problem for about two days, replaced nearly everything in the ignition, then checked the fuel pressure.

Wasn't there an ignition recall for that year Lincoln?
