o.k.. it"s like this.. i have a 79 2wd f-150 and i want to make it 4wd..i have all the running gear( frt and rear end, tranny and transfer case) from a 79 4wd, is it as simple as drilling a few holes and bolting the front end on to my frame?.. obviously the rear end will bolt right up where the old one came out..i"m just wondering if the 2 frames are exactly the same?...any help would be great thanks...PAUL...
o.k then, how much work is involved in switching the cab from the 2wd frame to the 4 wd frame?...surely the cab mounts on both frames must be the same?...i mean there the same year truck, just one is 2wd and the other is 4wd...paul...
vampiro, that article you refer to is converting an 80 to 86 f-150..which has a totally different front end set up than the 79"s.... thanks for the info though...
Nope, all the different frames have extensions in the appropriate place to fit the same body. That is to say, they make the frames fit universal bodies, rather than having special bodies than go with certain type frames. It's much cheaper to make one body type, the frames and springs are what makes them a 150, a 250, or a 350 (or even bigger, with different fenders.)
so i can take my 2wd cab and bolt it right on the 4wd frame?...thats great news...i was starting to get a little scared there...lol...thanks fordmando...
