I took off this morning with my truck, from my parents house in canada, driving to connecticut (home)..About 1 hour into the ride I start hearing, this metal on metal rubbing.Almost sounds like the backing plate it rubbing on the rotor (it not i checked that). Its not continuis,it gos by the wheel. The faster i go the faster the sound, the slower i go the slower the sound.
I did do my ball joints last weekend and I did check the axle bearings the seem to be good.
Oh its the drivers side only.
if youre just talking about hubs- upgrade to warn premiums. i have them on my rig but i havent used them yet. they were like $187 for both off ebay. the regular Warns were going for like $160. take off the clip holding the hub in, then wiggle the hub out to see if there is anything wrong with them. if a part or two is broken, PM me i have spare hub parts left ill give out.
No, not the hub locks, the hubs. The entire front hub assembly. The part that contains those non-servicable front bearings. The ones that wobble and squeal and scrape metal-on-metal when the bearings get shot.
Just a thought: You did remember to grease those inner needle bearings when you had the hubs off, didn't you?

Since you just had the wheels off.....I'll bet it's the backing plate rubbing on the rotor.
They make a tinny grinding sound that makes you think the wheel is going to fall off.
Yeah i checked that,i know the passenger side was hitting last week.I fixed that. But this time it started a hour into the ride and stoped before i got home.Even now theres no sound.Im not sure what it could be.If it was the hub bearing assm it would make noise all the time right? Not just when it feels like it.

Is it the same sort of sound that the passenger side was making?
Bad wheel bearings usually make a droning sound like you are driving on a grated bridge deck or a washboard.
yes it was the same sound, the passenger side was the backing plate, fixed that. But i couldnt hear it at high speeds. Now the drivers side,I checked the backing plate when i got home and its not touching at all,a good amount of space inbetween. And i could hear it going down the highway at 75mph if i rolled the window down some.It sounds like rubbing, not a bad bearing sound.
I dont know im lost for answers.
