I ordered the upper intake gasket for my 2001 4.0 v6 Ranger. When ordered it they told me they only sell in sets (upper and lower gaskets) When i took off the upper intake, i see o-rings, not a gasket. Do i use a gasket along with the rings, or did they order the wrong things for me?
Also when i pulled off the upper intake, the ports going to the valves were loaded with gunk. I cleaned them as best as i could, but i suspect the rest of the intake is loaded with it too. Without tearing apart the whole truck, what is the best way to rid my engine of the crud?
Berrymans B-12 works great on caked-on carbon crud. Along witha lot of rags and maybe a small brush, throw in some elbow grease and that's how you clean the ports. Try not to let the crap get into the cylinders.
The upper intake "gaskets" are indeed O-rings. The are in fact O-rings on my 4.0L OHV, too.
