I have a f250 I just bought that has what I think is a 2.5 skyjacker lift in it. I bought it from a dealer and they tried to tell me it wasnt modified and proceeded to try and sell me a warranty. I declined, because I knew if I was to bring it in for service they would have voided the warranty because its modded. Anyway It has 285-75-16 goodyear mud terrains on the stock wheels. The tires could be a little bigger so I ordered 315-75-16 BFG all terrains. Now I want to know the wheel offset I need for 16X10 wheels. I dont want them to stick past the body any further then they have to, but I also dont want them to rub on the inside. I did a search and came up with anywhere from a 2.5 to 4.5 offset. Can anyone give me an exact answer. I put A bad pic in my gallery. Thanks,Steve

The backspacing you need is 4.5" give or take a tad. My Eagle Alloys series 114 17x10 wheels have 4.65" of backspacing and they fit well within the fenders.

The backspacing is what you're talking about. Anywhere from 4 1/4 to 4 5/8 backspacing will work for you. The lower the number, the farther the wheels stick out.
The offset is how far ouf from center the mounting surface of the wheel is, usually expressed in mm.
Thanks for the clarification. So what if the factory backspacing. If I'm going from a 7" to a 10" does the wheel grow 2"s to the inside and an 1" to the outside with a 4.5 back space?
Keep in mind with the backspacing and offset that these will effect the perfomance of your truck. Lots of negative offset (less backspacing) will give your truck more bumpsteer as it pushes the centerline of the wheel out. Positive offset (more backspacing) will make contact with springs and fender liners more likely. Try to stay as close to the factory backspacing as you can to avoid rub issues.
Here's a pic of what I mean.
