They still make trucks like this too... and they are very popular with people who race in the Paris Dakar and the like - which should give you an indication of the durability of them.
They primarily make specialist units now though.
Next to the blue oval, Tatra is my favorite marque (cool to see someone else mention it). My dad used to have an old T111 which he sold when I was 6 - the thing was beyond indestructable, I remember him telling me that it pulled a D9-18A Cat bulldozer which was stuck with mud above its tracks, but it wouldn't go over 50mph going downhill with a tailwind.
It is a pity with such an intriguing history that thier car business when the way of a lot of other brilliant. Cars like the Tatraplan should not be forgotten. Not to mention brilliant vehicles like the T607 Monopost. Or the revolutionary T87
