I am considering taking a 300 straight six f-150 and replacing it with a 302 out of an 88 f-150. Does anybody know how difficult of a wiring project this is going to be? I'd like to have an idea before I decide whether or not to do it.
OK-her's my dilemma. I have a 1988 F-150 4x4 with a non-electronic AOD transmission and manual lockout hubs. Tranny and transfer case mount both have cracked housings. This truck has a good 302 engine. I also have a 1990 F-150 4x4 with electronic AOD transmission and automatic hubs. This truck has a worn out 300 straight 6 with a blown head gasket. This truck also has a better condition body. What would be the best way to combine the two trucks for one good one?

put the 302 in the good body truck an mate it up to the better of the two trannys. you will have to change the chip in the 90 F150 to except the 302 and if I got this right the 88 f150 is a efi engine so it should work ok and the only thing that you have to do is bring it up to 90 smog standards. it will fit as the 302 had many trannys from ford behind them. best thing to do is find a 90 in bone yard with a wire harness or graft in the 88s it should be the same Ford did not make to many changes over the years..get a good wire diagram fro both years then have fun
