stalling problem on startup

I have an 01 v10 that has been stalling on startup. If I rev the engine when it fires it will not die and idles fine. After that it runs fine. Any suggestions on sensors or control valves to check. Thanks JOHN

IAC ... Idle Air Control ... has been a somewhat common ailment. Mine did what you described once, and it was cold outside (below 20deg.F) at the time. Cycle the gas pedal a bit, and it loosens up.

problem fixed

I ordered a new IAC valve from autozone. $59.99 part. Installed last night and it seems to have repaired the problem. It was getting so bad that l had to use both the brake and the gas to get home from work. As soon as I got to my driveway and let off the gas it stalled. Its now running fine. Thanks for the suggestion. By the way my original had no gasket. JOHN

I had the exact problem. Did the two foot trick to get home also. It was the air sensor. I also had to have the theft system replaced. Sometimes you would go to start the X and the theft light would flash and the engine would not start.

I am experiencing the same problem. Sounds easy to fix. Can anyone tell me what the part looks like and exactly where it is on the engine? Prior posts have said it's near the throttle control....but I don't know where that is either. Be as descriptive as you can. I'd rather not pay the labor to have it replaced. Thanks,

The IAC valve is located on the rear top of the intake on the v10. You have to work under the windsheild wiper area.(Sort of a pain) The valve has a wire connector and a small cylindrical metal thing on it. There is a inch or so diameter black air tube that attaches from the rear side of the engine compartment. Disconnect wire (snap latch type). I unbolted the two bolts and removed the unit to get better leverage to undo the air hose. I used a mirror and found I had no original gasket to remove. Installed in reverse order.Use the new gasket. If you get the new one first....you can not misidentify it. JOHN

Thanks John.....Actually found a photo of the item on the Super Duty FAQ section. Took a look at it last night and it is just as you describe. I salute your tenacity in getting it removed. Although I might have attempted to get the top bolt off, I reconsidered when I realized the second bolt would be even more difficult to get to. I'm going to take it in this weekend and have a professional take care of it. Will
