Which transmission

I have a 2000 ford ranger Ext Cab. 4X4 with a 3.0L engine with a 4 speed transmission. I recently went to purchase a tranny filter and the man at the napa store told me this truck had a 4ALDE trans in it but the haynes book i have says it has a different tran in it which one is it.

It should have a 4r44e if its 4 gears, 5r55e if its 5 gears. Both of these are based on the A4LD.

I think most of the 3.0L trucks used the 4 speed during that model year. Generally all 4.0L V6s have the 5 speed starting around that time.

thanks what kind of fluis is in it isa it dextron mercron or mercron 5

Mercon 5 should be the right fluid but check your owners manual.

Pull the dip stick on the tranny and it will be stamped on there which fluid you're supposed to use.
