Shes Noisy
Hey I was wondering if any one can give me a few ideas on why my engine is so dam noisy. she has about 249 k on it. i have tried thicker oil and i dosent help. or is it just time for a rebuild?

she's noisy, but she sure keeps me warm at night.
what is your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.
gauge in dash imay be an idiot light.
you could have a clogged oil pickup screen, very poor ford design.
but you need to know your oil pressure first.

When does the noise occur? Is it constant?
Mine has a bit of noise when its cold, for about 10 minutes then clears right up. With 249k on it, it might be approaching time to rebuild the engine and start over.
Its just amazing how long these old sixes last...

I don't know the oil pressure but it sounds more like a dissel all the time no matter what rpm. i am pretty sure its not a rod knock cause i have a truck with one but more like a time chain slape or somthing just wonding if its comon amung the inline six. i will have to cheak the oil pressure though good idea.

So is it ticking, knocking, banging, or just over all loud? I know mines just overall a loud engine, just idleing, not exhaust wise, just the overall engine noise. In some newer cars you cant even hear them running. From what you said with the diesel sound, your valves are probobly knockin.
But at 250k miles, you are probobly near a rebuild. I myself would drive it till the day it falls apart & blows up, then rebuild it, but its up to you.

Well my noise was on '72-240-L6 rear sump oil supply tube broken bracket the pick-up screen was banging on the pan and the bracket was banging on the main bearing cap bolt. Would help to know what engine and yr
