New Owner Question
I just bought a Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4.6L V8. I am sure that this has been discussed a million times, however I have been through four tanks of gas and haven't gotten over 325 miles per tank. Does the engine have to break in before it will get better gas mileage? I had read in this forum before I bought that people were getting at least 15 with no mods.
To give you an idea of my driving, the first tank I didn't race the engine once, and didn't accelerate to barely past 2K RPM, on the second tank, I still didn't race the engine, and tried to accelerate a little faster but never really breaking 2.5K or 3K RPM's... and the last two tanks a combination of both.
When I fill up its just shy of 28 gallons.
Any thoughts?
I know its a truck and i don't expect to get 20 mpg, however, I wouldn't mind 15/18 like the sticker said...
This week I checked again on a trip averaging 70 mph and running the A/C for half the trip. Mileage was 19.78 mpg. My truck has approx. 3,000 miles on it so it's not entirely broken in as of this time.
As has been mentioned here before, the key seems to be holding rpms at 2,000 or less. At 70, my rpms are a tick under 2,000.
