I have a problem and hopefuly I can get an idea on how to start to isolate the problem..
I have a 88 Ranger, and when I got to start the truck, I hear clicking under the hood though, nothing else happens. The battery is good and all my fluids check alright as well. I think it is the starter though I am not sure. Though when I turn the key I hear a series of continuing clicking and that is it. Any help would be appreciated.
Sounds like a stuck starter solenoid. Take special tool #25 ( a hammer, or a hunk of iron or hard wood, I recently used a closed Leatherman), crawl under and locate the starter. Bang on it a few times, and try the key again. If it starts, it's definitely the starter.
These days, could also be a bad starter relay if equipped, corroded cables not letting all the juice go through, bad battery clamps...
