I had a 93 F150 w/a 300 six in it. It got terrible mileage around town. But on the highway it got around 20mpg. I now have a ranger 4x4 2002 model. it has the 4.0 motor. I get 16 flat everywhere. Doesn't seem to matter. I might creep to the 17 mark on a long highway trip. I have a pretty light foot as well. Is there anything I can do? Should I expect better or is this normal? I'm running synthetic oil and the air filter is clean.
I assume it's an auto, thats average for that truck. My 3.0 2wd xlt with a stick gets 19-20 around town and 22-23 on the highway. The higher heavier rangers especially auto's have worse economy.
I guess thats prety normal. You should be getting more mpg because Rangers arent that big. Try adding some fuel injector into your fuel. You can get it at any car store, it increases your gas miliage and saves you money and time.
I get about the same mileage as Jimw411 with my 96 4.0 4X4 with a stick. Seems pretty common for these trucks.
If you get the fuel injector cleaner, forget the stuff in the parts stores, and go back and buy the cleaner from Ford. You'll probably pay a little more for a bottle of it, but it really does work. It's the only stuff I've found that actually cleans the injectors and isn't mostly a fuel additive. Just my .02.
i wouldn't complain too much. the 4x4 autos do get less mpg than 2wd sticks. my 3.0 sucks on gas but what ya gonna do. its not like i've got an excursion. lol.
I have a 2002 w/2.3l and it gets 27 on the hwy when it's just the truck and passenger but drops significantly when I load it up. Do you have a canopy on it or additional weight in the bed?
