I found it on ebay and negotiated the sell after the auction ended with no bidders. It was about 4.5 hours away from me. I drove up, bought it, drove it an hour to a friends place and took my car home. Monday I flew up and drove it the rest of the way home. So an hour trip and then a 3.5 hour trip and no troubles out of the truck, so I'm pretty pleased with that. I was doing a pretty steady 65 mph I'd imagine.
My main concern was reliablity as I will be making this my daily work transport. So far I'm very pleased. It does have a tapping lifter, but I've known trucks to go years with that and no problems to speak of. Of course, if anyone has an easy fix on that, let me know.
I'll post pics as soon as my new gallery pops up. The body is solid, not a looker, but nothing too bad.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I'm no expert on mechanics, so please tell me if that engine setup is a timebomb or something. I am running the High Grade gas as the previous owner suggested, that sound right to everyone?
All thoughts and comments are appreciated. Thanks.
Check all fluid levels and the condition of the fluids, differential, transmission, engine, rediator, and brakes.
Usually a tapping lifter can be replaced with a new lifter(s).
The PO said it was lifter rattle, and it sounds like that to me. Certainly doesn't seem to affect performance. I guess the only way I can find out for sure is using a tube to listen for the noise and narrow it down.
I've been running the High end gas as PO suggested, with the stats of the motor, does that sound right? If I can go cheapear that would of course be preferrable, but with the engine mods I'd assume the good stuff is necessary.
My top priority is getting a heat shield for the starter. I worry the headers will burn it out in time, thankfully not a problem thus far. Follow that up with the brake booster, fluid changes all around and right on down the list.
So far, not too bad for $1500.00. Check out the pictures in my gallery under "Bluebell" , just the first 5 pics.
