Ford released a limited edition 'Official Truck' styled after the trucks that Ford supplied to Indianapolis Speedway for the 1979 Indy 500. These trucks came with a silver/black paint scheme with orange lettering. The interior received a similar silver/black treatment, with red pinstriping. This pacakge could be ordered on F150 and F250 single-cab trucks in both 2x4 and 4x4 trim with the short or long wheelbase, and with any of the regular engine/tranny combinations.
There are no production figures currently available for these trucks, but they are VERY rare. A 10,500 mile example of this truck recently went up for auction on eBay with a reserve price of about 14,500 (US dollars).

a guy on my old mail route back in NJ has one of these trucks. he use's it as his WORK TRUCK. he cut's grass and needless to say the truck is HAMMERED. i was gonna ask him if he wanted to sell it. but it's too far gone. crying shame what he did to it.
funny how things turn out. all this talk about the pace trucks and today i saw another one. on my mail route here in Phx,Az. and AGAIN it's a work truck. it has a different bed on it. but the doors say Indy 500 on them. it was in a BAD part of town. im gonna see if the guy wants to sell it. it's 2wd and i think a f250. one good thing though it looks to be rust free.
Wow, didn't know they were anything special. Anybody want one for, oh..., $200.00!!!! Sorry, but its a junkyard Dog(with a capital D). Delaware, Ohio. Polaris car and truck parts. Can't remember much about it other than it had no parts of value to me(and I've been looking for a LOT of parts lately). Remember hoping it might have sway bars or something, anything cool, but it didn't. Sometimes junk really is junk. Kinda reminds me of the '69 390 GT mustang I crushed twelve years ago.
Well....got in an accident with my car so i am looking to sell my pace truck....I can supply pics...just email me at stepkeja@msu.edu
and i will get u all the details....real quick its a 1979 4x4, 400M, C6, 4.10 gears, posi, long bed......anything else just email.....it might take me a few to get back cause of this stupid dial up at home....thanks
