I have a 2005 Ford Explorer XLT (4.0L) which is 2 months old and the last two times I've have filled it up with gas the gauge will spontaneously die out past empty. Then it goes back up for a few miles then dies again. The 'Service Engine Soon' light comes on soon after that. The strange thing is that when the tank gets to half empty, the gauge goes back to normal and the 'Service....' light turns off untill the next fill up. I took it to the dealer and they replaced a hose? (so they say) They also left some literature in the car and told me to use Chevron gas with Techron for 2 gas cycles and put some of that Techron Fuel System cleaner additive to clean some of the possible Sulfur contamination on the sensor and then the problem should go away. The mechanic said if it doesn't go away by then, then they might have to replace the fuel pump???
Is anybody having the same problem and if so what can be done to fix it?
