First post, lets see if I forget to add anything here. First off, this is a 98 Ranger XLT 2WD Flareside, 2.5, 5 speed, with ac and cd, 71,000 miles. I bought this truck used a few months ago and noticed right off that the rear cargo light didnt work (new bulbs, brake light fine) and the wipers wouldnt work on high. Later on, my wipers would only work after the switch was on for a minute or two, my flash to pass feature died as well. Now, I have no wipers at all. I tested the motor, replaced the switch, changed the fuses and relays, still no wipers. I searched out the GEM here on the board but nothing seems to pertain to my problem or the Ranger. I've been told that on this truck, the GEM is behind the radio, so I pulled that and found 2 similar looking electronic modules. Which do I need to replace and is it available anywhere other than Ford? Is there something else I should check? I apologize for the long post, just trying to cover all the bases.

Which switch did you replace, the multifunction switch? If you did, did you check the wiring at the connector, common problem there. Did you check for codes? The GEM will need to be programed before it will function.
Yes, I replaced the multifunction switch, nothing changed, and the wiring all still looks new. I have pulled the codes and nothing turns up.
The new one has to be programmed? Havent heard that one, thanks for the tip. I did locate a used unit with the same part number from a truck identical to mine in Alabama, not sure if i'll go that route or not.
