First time poster here. I changed out my fuel filter because my truck kept dieing on me. It seemed like there was no fuel getting to it and a mechanic friend of mine said it would fix it. Well, I changed it out and now my truck won't turn over. I have a f-150 1989 80,000 miles on it. Can someone help me?
1)Dual Tank
2)There is fuel
3) I've tried both tanks
4) I didn't bleed anything i just snapped fuel lines let it drain then i put the new fuel filter on
5) arrow is pointing toward the engine on the fuel filter
6) Check Engine light is ON
Can you hear the fuel pump running? I was told that you have to cycle the fuel pump a few times to purge the new filter. other than that I'm an old carb man so you may have to wait for someone with more fuel injection experiance.
hummm? next step would be to remove the line of the fuel filter going to the engine place the fuel filter end in a container and turn the switch on for a sec and see if you get flow.
Do you have a rubber mallet? If so have someone yurn the key while you hit the tank a couple times it should send enough shock to the fuel pump if it is the fuel pump bad. DO NOT hit the tank with a regular hammer!!!! (NOTE: This does not work every time, but it is the easiest way)
it should run for about 2 seconds. have someone turn the key, while you get under it and listen for the hum, or feel the tank. if you got fuel pressure tester, test the pressure on the rail, it could be a bad high pressure fuel pump. have you pulled the codes? if you dont have a scanner, you can do it manually, find out at www.fordfuelinjection.com . hope all this helps.
