Just for the info: I just added a PowerMaster 140a alternator. Should have done it a long time ago with my electrical loads. It added 1.2volts and is steady under all conditions. My idle even seems better. It's a "one wire" but I added the stator (?) wire to cause it to turn on as soon as the key is. Without it it did not begin to charge untill 1,200rpm.
Removed about 5 poundes of cracked grubby wire but kept it ready to reenstall in case I every need a spare.
It's basically bolt in with about 30 minutes max time but it took a lot longer to clean up the old wiring.
Mr. Tracks,
Did you just diconnect the voltage regulator?
Do you tape off the plug?
Do you just tape off all the extra alt. wires?
Who sells these alt.?

Power Master has a web site. You can buy through Summit racing. I left the regulator and pulled all the wire still attatched to the alternator. I had to make one splice (connection) for the horn wire and one for the exciter wire. I could stick it back on pretty quick if need be.
They offer it in black, polished and I think chrome. Only bad thing is the cost. Starts about $150 for the 140a.
For anyone who needs serious juice, I have a 190 anp Powerline alternator. Its in the big Ford housing and its a bolt on swap using the factory regulator. I can jump start a totally dead Peterbuilt in about 5 minutes.
