[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-May-02 AT 10:16 PM (EST)]Been looking for a replacement for my 79 rust bucket when I came across an interesting twuck today. It is an F350, 2wd, reg cab, 300-6, 4 spd, RECTANGULAR headlights, long wheel base with the axle toward the rear of the bed, big full floating axle, and the removable passenger side bed panel over the spare tire. The truck has 55,000 original miles and original owner. And it looks it. The truck has no rust through or rot anywhere on it. It just looks old, like a western truck. He wants $1,000.
Is there a story behind these old 1 tons? How many made?
My wife, naturally, doesn't share the same excitement as I over such rare and unusual finds as this.
Thanks,
John
sounds like a trailer or camper special, with the floating axle towards the rear of the bed. sounds grossly underpowered, 300 I6 for a F350? yuck.... that would have to go, but the prce seems right for everything else
I have seen a 300 in a f500/600 something big like that I belive it was late 60s. It had a 16 or 20 ft flatbed and the guy useed it to haul concrete septic tanks. So never underestimate the pulling power of these great engines. It didnt go fast but never stopped pulling all in the gearing i spose.

A friend of mine had one of those, I dont recall what Ford called them but I'm sure Dennis will know. If I recall correctly they have an unusually high GVWR and are emmisions exempt in most states. The only problem is if you wreck the bed, I have only seen 3 or 4 of these things around and most of them were rusty. My friend bought his for 1500, so if its as nice as it sounds I would jump all over it.
John, you have a Super Camper Special. I have a 73 with a 390 in it. They were built to haul, mine is rated at 10,500 GVW. They will haul the world if you can get it in the back, LOL.They have factory sway bars front and rear, dual battery setup, dual gas tanks, 4 row radiators, tranny and P.S. coolers, rear overload springs, disc brakes up front, dana 70 full floater rear ends, trailer wiring package, and of course a one and only frame and bed setup as the rear end was set back 6" further than a standard truck for ease of trailering and the best weight distribution with a fullsize camper on board. Hope this helps!

I've got one too, 74 F-350 SCS with the factory 460. If ya pick up this truck for parts lemme know. My bed is trash, and if you are even remotely close to me (las Vegas) I'd give ya a few bucks for that bed. Even better if that bed has fuel doors....
Thanks everyone for the replies. The truck does in fact have a 300-6 which is fine with me. I already have three of them - two in trucks and one in the house.
The owner says the truck pulls fine with the 300/ 4 spd combo. I'm sure it runs out of breath when a 400 or 460 is just getting warmed up, though. I have seen 6 cylinders in larger trucks as someelse has said.
Oh, and the trim says it is an XLT. It has the wood grain dash, etc.
The bed has 2 gas doors but only one opens. The vehicle is in too good of shape to part out and its over here in Maine.
