My F250 Diesel, In Just The Past Two Days Has Shut Down On Me. Both Times I Was Nearing A Stop. When It Shut Down The First Time, No Lights Were Present Anywhere On The Instrument Cluster. Placed The Shift In Park, Cycled The Ignition Key And It Started. No More Problems The Rest Of The Day. Next Day, Engine Shutdown. Again No Lights, Cycled The Ignition Key--only This Time It Took Awhile To Fire Up. No More Problems The Rest Of The Day. Will The Cps Cause The Instrument Cluster Lights To Go Out When A Shut Down Occurs Or Is This An Electrical Problem? Any Advice Much Appreciated.
sounds like a bad cam position sensor, its a common problem on the 7.3 psd. do a search in this forum for "CSP" or "cam position sensor" and you will find all the info you need to replace it. the part $100-$150 and is very simple to replace
Welcome to the forum crown25.
If you are losing instrument lights then I suspect a power supply problem somewhere.
Somebody will be along shortly that knows more on that subject than I.
My fault for not being clear on that! No warning lights come on. Turn the key off, turn it back on, you get the normal start up lights, and it will usually fire back up--until sunday. It took some cranking to re-start.
well then back to my original thought, sounds like a bad CPS.
ps. in my first post i put "CSP" in should have been CPS (cam position sensor). thats what most people call it. the correct acronym is actually CMP (CaM Position) sensor
