low idle blues
ok, first off I have a 97 ford f150 4.6. I just got it about 1 month ago, the engine light was on but since there was a broken exhaust bolt and a leak,I figured it was an oxy code. I was right, but I replaced the sensor, and still had the problem. Well, the light came on again, and the code was for insufficiant egr pressure. On one of the other threads, I read about cleaning the holes in the throttle body, so I took it apart, and sure enough it was stuffed solid. I completely cleaned it out and put the whole thing back together reconnected the battery and test drove. That is where I am now, the light has not come on yet and it is still idling about 500 and lower when I get to a stop. It wants to die but doesnt and hesitates a little. I took off the iac and cleaned it out, but to tell the truth, it looks new. Some direction or information would really be appreciated. The truck still has plenty of power. thanks Brad.

A clean IAC isn't always a good IAC.
I would suspect that your IAC is on it's way out.
If you hold your foot on the throttle a little bit does the idle stabilize and feel not like it wants to die?
