I am looking for some advice on Wheel/Tire sizes and ride heights. Due to my location (UK) there are precious few MII/Volaire etc. donor cars about. So my plan is to make/have made for me and IFS setup using some UK sourced components.
I am now just working out all of the relevent geometry and realised that if I am going to get it all correct, I need to decide on the tire size (outside diameter) and the ride height now.
I know that this is all subjective but looking through some galleries here I really like the look with the tires just tucked under the fenders.
As I have now stripped all the bodywork off of the chassis it would also help if someone could provide the height of the chassis rail from the floor. or if easier the front bumper height from the floor.
I am using 275-60-15's on the rear and 225-70-15's on the front, this gives a big and little look to the tires but the height/diameter is the same so that the leverage effect against the brakes is the same front and rear. There are pics in my gallery that show it pretty well. Hope this helps
Yes I like your stance a lot. That is the sort of look I am going for. Would it be possible for you to measure the chassis rail to the floor at the front axle center? That would help me a lot. Or if that is not easy, the front bumper to the floor.
I have a Lincoln clip on this truck so measurement at the ''axle'' centerline probably won't help you much, I think the front frame horn is about 7-7.5 inches but I'll have to check. The truck is up on stands right now but it should be down in a couple of days.
I used to run 15" on my truck. I recently bought new wheels and tires. Now I'm running 255/55/17 on the rear with a 17x10 wheel. The front I went with a smaller tire and am running 215/45/17 on a 17x7 front wheel. It gave the front a lower stance. The front bumper is 7.25 inches from the ground. I'm running the stock front end. (straight axle). I like the look of the slightly bigger wheels diameter, especially on the old trucks. 20's are a bit too much for my liking.
If you could check for me when you get it back off the stands I would really appreciate it.
Hi Imlowr2,
Are the pics in your gallery up to date? re the ride height? I really like the wheel/tire combination, but from your pics your truck looks a bit higher than I was expecting with the same sort of height as Fatfenders56 to the front bumper.
Lwlandy, my truck appears high? That's it, Fatfenders56 thinks his truck is lower than mine..... Just for that, I'm pulling all my leafs out and using my torch. Then we'll talk. LOL....... Kidding aside, I measured the front from the ground to the bottom of the bumper, I have 7.25" with my present tire combination. If I measure from the ground to the middle of the front fender, I have 25.5" front and 28.25 in the rear. I'm planning on removing one leaf in the rear to give me a two inch variation from the front. Or I'll just get pissed off and bag the darn truck. LOL....
Its definately not High! It just that Fatfenders looks slightly lower , although I beleive I now know why. I just did a couple of calculations on the tire sizes you are both using and your front tire is nearly 3" smaller in diameter. So it is the way it looks in the opening in the fender.
There is no way anyone could think that your truck is high...
