100K Question

Bought an early 99 last year at 80K and will be hitting 100K soon. I plan on changing all the fluids and filters. Is there anything else I should change or check that isn't in the owners manual?? Thanks.

Belt and hoses, if never done.

Dunno, is that in the owner's manual?

????? sounds good though. The manual for my truck became a casualty long before I owned it.

I'm trying to set somewhat of a maintenance baseline because I don't know how the truck had been treated before I bought it.

Excellent idea to get a baseline.

By the way, check eBay. I've seen Owner's Manuals for your year sold pretty cheap there.

what about differential oil? 75w-140 synthetic, slip modifiers added if you have a limited slip

tranfer case? less than 4 quarts of ATF.

Crank Position Sensor. Get it before it gets you. Mine went out at about 105,000.

You could go all out crazy and do the ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link as well.
Shocks, you'd be surprised at what a difference new ones would make.
Every filter, all the fluids, transmission, transfer case, differential, brake fluid, antifreeze.
Belt and hoses.

I agree with the shocks, I know I need some new ones as well, but was thinking of getting a new bushing kit and shocks all at the same time.

wheel bearing check

Easiest way is to lift wheel off groung and check for play, but what about repacking wheel bearings at 100k miles???. JeffQUOTE=WA.Ranger]Lets not forget to check those front wheel bearings.[/QUOTE]

The OEM owners manual is pretty reasonable brand new.

From what I can tell the inside races are open to each other. Every time I have the wheels off I pull the ABS sensor and pack the middle cavity full of grease.

Dunno if it helps or not but it keeps them quiet.

I keep intending to pull my old bad one apart and see just how nonservicable they really are, but I snapped the jaw off my vise a while back and haven't got around to replacing it yet.

Thanks for posting that Cookie. How much grease, and what kind are you using?
