i am getting this 70 f100 4x4, and im gonna put a 6 inch lift and 35's on it.
i want to do some mudding but its also going to be a truck i drive a couple times a week to school. what preventative measures do i need to take to keep all major enggine components dry and safe while im in the mud.
also besides what comes in the skyjacker 6inch lift kit what else if anything will i need to complete the kit and make the truck drive properly.
problem with sealing your engine bay from getting mud in it is heat issues. when trying to keep out mud you are also keeping in the heat from the motor. make sure your inner fenders are in good shape and cover as much as they can! might wanna run a snorkel but if you are just gonna run 35's prolly wont be an issue!
it would be worth every penny to go to home depot and get a pressure washer. i have 2700psi with removable tips and it'll clean just about anything i want.

I'm not to sure what comes with that kit. But you'll need SS extended brake lines. Your driveshafts will need to be extended and you'll need to figure out what shims need to be added front and back. I assume the kit comes with new shocks and u-bolts right? Figure out a good method for steering possibly cross-over like I'm going. If that kit comes with a pitman arm you'll need to get it reemed out to fit the cross-over arm end. But that may depend on where you buy it from or if you can make your own. And new urethane busing inserts.
you should be able to run 35's and 4" lift. if you go 4" nothing is required as far as steering. its always a good idea top get the dropped pitman arm but its not needed. just make sure to get it aligned
TO help keep the motor running in the mud heres a few things i've learned, 1. sealing the are from the engine crossmember to the rad support does wonders for keeping the engine clean 2. them rubber boots that the ford cars in the 70's and 80's used on the dizzy do wonders to keep the dizzy dry 3. DO NOT run a PAPER air filter in conjuction with an open element style air cleaner without a foam prefilter, if you have the factorry style air cleaner, take off that snout thats on the air cleaner and turn the housing around backwards (i've had issues with mine sucking in water) that is with the hole point toward the fire wall when in the mud, switch to an electric fan if you can, that way you can shut it off when in the pitt and turn it back on when you need to (fans will suck in the spray then blast the motor with it), and after you wash the motor if it does get dirty be sure that there no water sittin around the dizzy seal on the block, the dizzy can get suck and you may get a little water into the motor through here (i have this problem too).
