Ignition problem - NEED HELP FAST!
Hi! Hoping someone out there can help me with a problem I'm having with my 2001 F150. For the past three years I've had an intermittent problem with starting my engine. Whether it's cold or hot, dry or wet, day or night, there are times when the engine will not turn over the first, second and sometimes third time I turn the key.
I've taken it in a few times to the dealer over the past few years, and of course no one can find anything wrong. Finally last week an ignition coil blew - which the dealer is saying stemmed from a spark plug blowing up - which of course is not covered under my extended service plan. So they want me to pay $500 to get my truck back since the spark plug is not covered, and the policy says that if the problem is caused by an uncovered item then everything else is not covered. However, in my research, I'm finding that the spark plug should not be causing the ignition problems I'm having, it's actually a symptom, and if dealt with correctly can help in the diagnosing and cure of the underlying issues.....I'm going to the dealer tomorrow afternoon with hopefully enough information to help me prove my case. If anyone has information that can help me in this cause it would be greatly appreciated. I am not a mechanical person at all.....however I am learning much through this process and I like it!
Thanks!

Good News
Just in case anyone wondered.....it all came to a close exactly how it should have. The coil was the cause of the problem - spark plugs, coil, and cylinders replaced. Truck is running smooth again. And all was covered under my warranty. It was great to have the forums through this web-site to use as an educational resource to help me gain the confidence to speak on a subject I knew nothing about prior to Saturday.....The stileto's never had to come into play.
