So how in the hell do you get the joint off. Surely not by banging on it as the directions say. has anyone figured this out. I need to rplace the darn boot and I'm Pissed off..
the CD specs out some specialized tool #'s, but it sort-of looks like a puller of some kind. betting a steering wheel puller would work if you can find/make a suitable adapter for the hub to attach it. DON'T just hit it, ford CD says specifically not to.look here for the CD.
I think thats for knocking the axle through the bearing. I have the axle on the bench in a vise. the outer joint spposed to come off by hitting it with a soft hammer but no go.

ah..ok. where did those instructions come from? that's a first for me. BTW the puller I mentioned was to seperate the outboard CV stub shaft. an assumption on my part, thought that's where you were.

The directions came with the boot. Can you copy and paste a pic of the puller maybe..Thanks for your help..Of all the threads I've read and it was all of them the only puller I saw was the one that pushed in on the shaft to separate it from the wheel bearing. You are the first person who may have an answer.
unfortunately no....my account isn't active. the link I gave in a previous post is to the full ford technical CD's. they should be a great help, as that's where I got my info from.
sorry I couldn't help more, hope this helps some.
looking more thoroughly through this, it shows no other removal technique. in fact it's showing that the outer joint can't be removed from the half shaft. the inner joint can be and should be sufficient to replace boots. let me know if this works or is workable for you. dinners over and the wife will want the comp soon.

replacing the joints are such a pain, i have always just got a whole new axle assembly. by the time you go through the hassle of removing the joint and regreasing and rebooting, you would have wished you just paid the extra 10 or 20 bucks for the whole deal. hell, just not having to deal with the grease is worth the 20 bucks. lol
The boot cost me less than 20 bucks. Comes with greese why would I want to do anything else? On my 99 cd it says to use a brass drift to knock it off. Its in a different area than the axle install. You have to go back to the menu and choose front drive half shafts then assembly and dissassembly. At least on mine CD. I will get it off.
Its gotta be replacable, the joint and the boot.
