Maybe you are correct but I don't think so, the joint slides on the shaft so there is some kinda clip that holds it from comming off. I will figure it out and get back tomorrow..Can't see ford being so stupid.....Hope not.
if you do figure out a way to remove it, please let us know. always interested in a new way to do things.
of course, we are talking about the aerostar here. not the brightest light in ford's history, but we still love 'em.
I'll take the other side off if I can and slip the boot on from the backdoor if I have to.
I wonder why the industry makes a boot for the outer. If you have to remove the inner then the kit should come with two boots and clamps. From the directions it comes off. Watch the inner boot won't be avail.
oh..thought you were trying to remove outer for some other reason. I had mentioned before the inner is removable for boot replacement. and yes, since both boots have to be removed to replace the outer it would make more sense to include both.
ok...checking back with the trusty tech manual again. it does show the inner joint being removed to replace boots. on the down side it says to cut the boot clamps so unless you have some handy it looks like you will at least need new clamps. on the upside, it might be prudent after all this to go ahead and replace both boots. just a thought. good luck.
