I have a 1988 250 xlt and i would like to know the correct tire pressures when running empty. The information on the door jamb states 51 front and 80 rear max when carry a full load but this is causing wheel spin in the wet when empty.
Many thanks for any information.
I keep mine close to max inflation all the time on both ends.
There is usually not a convient air compressor when I have to haul something, and max inflation also yeilds better fuel mileage.
I use 50/50 and carry a portable inflation pump for times I load above the normal PSI required. Let's face it your engine weighs 1000lbs and you use 50 psi in the front so you should be able to run a 1000lbs in the bed before major inflation to 60/70/85psi.
In the steer tires of any of my trucks with 235/85R-16s I always run 70 psi I have a 450 (dually) the rears are at 75-80. I wouldn't run 10 ply rubber any less than 65 if you run them too low they build heat and you will end up with a tire failure.
