Hey all. In my recent posts, I have mentioned about my install of new timing gears and chain. Here it gos, I rotated with old gears to align marks, remove old. When putting on new crank gear, I had to realign, assume due to old chain stretch. Realign, and assemble new gears and chain as a whole slide on. Cam gear was little diffucult, so using small block of wood, and rubber mallet, gently tap in place. Check everything, marks are good, no place for rubbing against chain, seal up and start bolting her together. Reinstall rad., fill up and get ready to crank. I also installed new fuel filter and coil due to suggestions related to my problem posts before. Double check all hookups and coolant levels, go to fire her over, no spark it seems. No odd noises or sounds, she cranks like the devil, just won't fire up. I pull dizzy cap, and it appears the rotor is not spinning. Could I have unseated the rotor gear out of engagement when "tapping" before? What are the chances the gear or the pin(s) in the dizzy shaft could have sheared off? Also, what could I have possible done? I made sure to double check every thing, and I am really upset that I get all this work done, even with my inexperience and no fire in the hole so to speak. Could I have messed up the dist. while turning the motor manually? I thought it would rotate the dist. while I did it. When I realigned my crank to take up the slack difference in the two chains, could that have been enough to move the dist. somehow? I thought I followed Comps and Haynes directions but feel I have made a major boo boo. Anyone and everyone feel free to throw yer' two cents in the cookie jar, I need every bit I can get. Also, I don't think I have made it clear how much help this site and you people have given me. I truly thank you all for past, present, and any future help. Last thing, sorry for the long post guys. Thanks again, Blair T (I will get it fixed!!)
Hi
Sounds like yer on the right track. Rotating the engine should not have damaged anything. With the dissy cap removed have someone crank the engine so you can verify if the rotor rotates. If it does rotate then make sure everything is timed correctly. If not you probably sheered the pin. Also check to make sure the cable connection at the dissy is connected well.
