I have been trying to find a hole in my air conditioner system so I went and bought some uv ray sensitive ac refrigerant that glows in uv light. It really does work but I couldnt find where it was leaking so I took out my evaporator, the radiator looking thing inside the dash. I looked it over and where the lines come off and there was no glowing refrigerent. When I drove around before I could hear a pressure leaking sound when the ac was on. Do any of you think that the little valve thing on the line going to the evaporator needs replaced or is something else going on. I have a 134a system and I charged it correctly with the compressor and engine running and let the it run for 20 min after the can was empty. When I put my charge guage on it reads empty and a hair over empty directly after I charge it with a large can.
If there was no freon when you pulled your evap. then your ac is not plugged..The best way to check for leaks is to us a 3 hose gauge..One hose on the high side, one on the low side, and attach the other to a bottle on nitrogen (DO NOT USE OXYGEN) to pressure the system up..DO NOT RUN THE AC AT THIS TIME..Use a soap and water mixture in a spray bottle and check every conection and every part in the system..After fixing the leak you will have to use a vac. pump to remove the air and nitrogen..Then recharge with freon..Leaks can be a pain to find but yours sounds like a big one and shouldn't be too hard to find..Good luck...
