I was trying to put in a cd player in my 2000 ranger and was cutting the wires (since walmart didn't have an adapter and I was impatient and could not wait) and I short the wires out by accident and not the 12 volt constant does not work. I tryed using the cigarette lighter 12 volt but the door chimmer keeps going after I take the key out. And when I turn the key on the radio does not come on byself like it used to, I have to turn it on. I need help right away please. I'm mad and worried at the same time. I'm so worried about a fire hazzard I disconnected the battery.
well I would keep your battery disconnected
repair any splice you made to the lighter
then check all your fuses-- I am sure you blew one
then you can wire up your radio harness
either solder and heat shrink your connections
or
use insulated crimp on connectors
follow the wire diagram that came with your new radio
for the stock wiring- my install cd shows (could be wrong)
constant 12v+ green \ yellow
switched 12v+ yellow \ black
Ground red(reg. stock audio) or black\green (premium sound)
I would test these wires with a multi meter 1st- to be safe
Yeah this is in the Ranger forum as well, and once again, you need an adaptor and it was rather foolish to try and install it without one if you didn't know exactly what you were doing.
I know walmart didn't carry my adapter for my explorer, went to best buys install bay, they have it all there, if they don't, they can get it for you, should check all you're local car audio places and they might have an adapter for you, makes life 100x easier.
