Hey all, I just bought my dream truck, it is a 1978 F-150 Ranger Lariat, i love it to death but I have two questions for ya. First it seems that when I push my accelerator down, the engine is playing catch up with the tranny, it almost feels like running a manual tranny at very low RPM does anyone knwo how to fix this or if it is normal. Second, my drivers side door almost seems to be loose, when I hit a bump in the road it bounces up (makes a loud thump) I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix the problem. Thanks for the help everyone.
The c6 tranny can start in 2nd gear, they call it a snow gear. If your linkage is misadjusted, you might be in 2nd, when it says drive. Also you might have bad modulator, or vacuum line going to it. Is your kick down rod connected? it goes to the carberetor to the tranny. As far as the door, the hinges might be worn and sagging. Check the striker pin on the cab for the plastic collar. If its missing, the door wont latch properly. JC whitney among other catalog places sells a new pin with the collar mounted
If you feel there maybe a problem, you should get it checked out by a good tranny shop. Its not good to have a slipping trans, or a 2nd gear start out all the time. Also check that this isnt an engine problem ,such as retarted timing or something
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-May-02 AT 10:25 PM (EST)]Check out your door latch, and see if your weather striping needs replacing. Those usually are the culprits for door problems.
