I'm in the middle of an alarm/keyless/remote start install of a Ford "Gold" system and the remote start function requires a "tach sense" input. The installation manual suggests the tan wire of the #1 injector under the hood. I'm really not keen on tearing into the injector harness in addition to the logistics of getting the signal in from under the hood. Is there an easier way to come up with this signal, preferably inside the passenger compartment?
I lost my capability to go see to be sure on the 01-03 models but my memory tells me that the "tach sense" wire is also in the cab to the right of the steering wheel taped to a large bundle very hard to find and is labeled usually with a White plastic tape (the stuff holding it to the large bundle) with "customer access Tach +". Don't remember if it is Grey w/green(GR), purple(P), Light Blue(LB) stripe or Tan w/ one of those stripes.
It will be a single wire that is blunt cut and has 1" to 1 1/2" of black heat shrink on the end as a protection shield to keep it from shorting if not used.
It is a bear to find because of the tight space and all the various crap and wiring under that area. Look to the left of the floor vent and right of the throttle pedal and up about 6" to 10"
its a light green with white tracer. on my 02
Its usually above the OBDII plug on the go pedal side tied together with a group of customer acces wires.
As a last resort to find it you can pop the radio out look in down to the left.
In the installation manual it lists a Lt Green/White wire as a "Blunt Cut Wire Behind Fuse Panel (Taped to Harness)" but says that is for the 7.3L Diesel. The V10's signal is listed as a Tan wire from a fuel injector, and the 6.0L Diesel is listed as using the Lt Green/White but run through an extra "Tach Inverter".
This seems like V10 discrimination, that oil burners get to use the blunt cut wire while the V10 has to cut a harness.
FortyFords, is your Lt Green/White hooked up?
My 01 had a tach signal wire in the cabin I just don't remember the darned color.
There are a bunch of fellers up in the SuperDuty forum that have installed all sorts of remote start systems including the Ford Gold one. You might search around up there. I don't remember seeing this question down here too often.
Not blowing you off, seriously pointing to where I have seen these questions before.
