Anybody with a Mazda, mine's a 2002, get a key programmed by Ford?
Mine was purchased with only 1 key so I need a dealer program to get a second one. I have a very handy Ford dealer but he will not garantee that his Ford equipment will program the 2300 Mazda. I'd bet it will work but the key plus programming will cost me $50 even if it doesn't work which is fair. I suggested he not cut the key but hold it by the ignition while using my spare unprogrammed key but he looked like I was talking Greek.
Mazda (also a Ford dealer) is several miles out of the way and not my favorite service facility (bad experiences).
Thanks All,

holding the key by the ignition is an urban myth. I had a hide a key cut that isn't a transponder just incase in need to get in my truck or i lock my keys in the factory bed lid. I put the non tranponder key in the ignition and held the transponder key by the lock and ran it around the lock and it didn't work. I also tried driving my truck down a deserted road in the middle of the night and turning off the truck and pulling out the transponder key and putting in the hide a key and popping the clutch but all it did was decellorate quickly and flash the theft light.
