Ford pickup safety 'poor'.
Most popular pickup truck's crash safety 'bad as it gets'.

I've owned ...
1980 F150
4.9 Straight six... Couldn't get rid of the pre-ignition
Brakes... One side kept wearing pre-maturely into the rotor. Replaced everything including caliper assy and it still kept doing it
Rear... axle seals had to be caulked to prevent them from leaking
Interior... Fell apart... literally
1984 F150
This was an interim vehicle between Chevy trucks. I had to remind myself why I love Chevies with that one. I only got between 6 and 8 mpg with a 302. Power steering was so powerful, you couldn't feel the raod at all. The twin I-beam IFS didn't let me steer. It steered for me. If the road was rutted good enough, I didn't have to put my hands on the wheel.
No Fords since I bought my first Chevy in 1990. I actually was at a Ford dealership looking for a used Ford pickup when I ran into a deal I couldn't pass up. I liked the Chevy K1500 Stepside so much that I ended up Pro Chevy. Can you imagine that?
Here's a list of a few of the vehicles I've wrecked, uh I mean, owned.

As far as aluminum parts are concerned...
I admit.... I am a Guinea Pig
2001 GMC Crew Cab/ SB 4x4 Duramax/Allison
GM tested the Duramax on a full load durability test that ran 2500 hours, about twice as long as it tested the 6.5TD and four times longer than it's gasoline engines.
The Duramax passed one of the most severe thermal shock tests in the industry.
With the thermostat removed, the engine is run on a dyno at full load at normal operating temperature. By switching a special valve in the plumbing that supplies coolant to the engine, cold water can be fed directly into the cooling system. This is a brutal test for any engine and if a head is going to warp and blow it's gaskets, this test will make it happen. Several engines were sucessfully tested on both cycles and GM is confident the Duramax is up to the task.
I hope this helps.
2001 GMC Crew Cab/ SB 4x4 Duramax/Allison
they spin to many rpm
they have almost no get up and go
they do now have the power Gm says they do
I tryed pulling my friends trailer with it
had to put the gas down half way in first to move it
when I just tap the gas in the ford ( diesel )
I just don't like anything about them
they don't sound nice like the cummins or the ford
they are jap which makes them cra.p
Ford has competition now that they only had with Dodge. But GM better stay on their feet, because the new 6.0L PSD2 is sure going to be a bit ahead of the 2001 D's.
