I'm seriously considering putting a set of dual 3 1/2 inch stacks on my bronco and i'm wondering if anyone has done it and if so how hard was it and hows it look
If you do this, I'm guessing you'll always be running with out the top on. An then it wouldn't be to fun to drive on a rainy day, because if you put the top on the stop from getting wet, then the carbon build up would be pretty bad.
What, an how would you plan to run these?
Please, for the love of everything that is Ford, just don't run them up the sides without any other work. I saw a guy once driving a duelly, and he didn't even try to put the pipes in a nice spot, he just ran them out from underneathe and up the sides, sticking out a full 3-4 inches. It looked terrible.
I'm not tyring to talk you out of it or knock you, but I'm curious how you'd do it too. Also, is she going to be for everyday use?
havent 100% figured it out but they will be up the sides should have heat sheilds according to my mechanic, will have flappers so the rain dont go in and will run with the top on her most of the time unless its really nice out side, should be over the top about 3 to 4 inches and wount be sticking out much more than the size of the pipes themselves (3 1/2) , i have her listed as a pleasure vehicle with my insurance company, but ive also not been able to figure out how to do the dual yet i cant get headers because i dont have enuf cash, for now at least
Insttttead of running the pipes up the side why dont you think about running them along the rocker panel. like what the corvevtes used to do.
Just like JD said it would not look good at all. Pipes running up the vechical need to be recesed into the side to make them look good. step side pickups work realy good for that.
i was hoping to have them look a little like what some of the rigs have right up the sides in all my thought proccesses i would think it should look nice once im done with her
Your Bronco is pretty wide as is. Add 7 inches minimum for the width of the 2 pipes, and a couple of inches for the space you would need between the pipes and the truck body. You should be able to use your common sense, and know this idea will not look good. It will also add too much width to your truck. You've been given a better idea. I know of a Bronco that has the side pipes where they belong. Under the rockers, looking similar to nerf bars. Then add a visor over the windshield, for a sweet looking ride.
To each his own, but I don't think it would look good at all, even if it was inside the body panels. I like the along the rocker panel idea. Get some fenderwell exit headers and you are set.
What about out the sides with a trick exhaust tip. No, not like the Folgers cans, but like, take one off of a junked Cadillac or something, only if you can't fab your own. Something that might be an oval, or a tapered tip, or something else, not just a plain tip sticking out the sides. Maybe you can even tuck your pipe up underneathe, or even hide it behind a runner until just before the rear wheel, where that tip should be sticking out ever so modestly.
ive thought about the same thing your wanting to do and after long deliberation, i found that it would be possible to run them up the side and recess them but it would be a lot of work. the side pip was my other idea and thats what i plan on doin just cause it would sound nice and look even better.
I would be worried about the paint job with stacks, with or without a heat shield. Plus, what if some dumarse comes up to your truck and puts his hands on your exhaust, insurance trouble waiting to happen.
Here is an idea no one has suggested. Hide your exaust under the truck, and run fake stacks up the sides. Don't get me wrong here, I hate additions to cars that are purely aesthetic, leave that to the ricers, but if you've already made your discision, that's an option.
Since your set on doing the stacks why not run them up the inside of the truck Insulated and wraped with SS sheet metal put flexible joints on the underside of the cab and then put the pipes up through the roof and use the biggest pipe you can find to get that super deep sound. oh you might run this by somone who does inspections in your state BEFORE you start on this project. otherwise you may end up with a strictly show vechicle and that would suck
if i was going to run them up through and leave the top of chances are i would end up getting another bronco to do it i dont want to cut too many holes in her considering she is getting old 204k and considerable rust by the gate and above wheel wells, plus Dixie is my first ever vehicle and intend to keep her for a long while, i do like some of the ideas you guys throw out there still in the stages of planning it tho, i may just make the brackets and stuff get the pipes and post some pics see what yall think
