squealing clutch...

well, headin out to a movie tongiht with my sister, i noticed that my clutch is squealing....it sounds like a spinning sort of squealing. only happens when the pedel is up. when i push the pedel down, it goes away. it squeals when in or out of gear with the pedel up. the clutch is about a year and 3-4 months old (go figure, out of warrenty form the shop), and as far as i know, it is a single mass flywheel. any ideas? i'm gonna head out now to check the fluids and the like....

You sure it's not an input shaft bearing going south in the transmission? What makes me ask is the noise shows up when your foot is off the pedal and the clutch is engaged and spinning the input shaft. Oil level ok in the tranny?
Suggest getting some work clothes on and rolling under the truck, pinpointing the source of the noise. That information would be most helpful in diagnosis.

Kwik, i just got out from under there, and the rear portion of the tranny is wet with fluid. not soaked, but wet indeed. it sprayed onto the exhaust pipe and baked it on. i'll have pics up in a few...btw, there was a larger amount of fluid looks like where the driveshaft meets up with the tranny

Not a good sign. Check your transmission level, it should be level with the bottom of the fill hole.

Also check your transfer case, it's completly separate from the transmission, even though it's bolted right up to it.

I tried to find a picture to post, but don't have one. It should be on the side of the transmission a few inches from the bottom of the case. On my six speed it's on the driver's side.
Those pics give me cause for concern for the oil level of the transmission. If you get it low enough, the bearings, gears, etc are forced to run dry and then it goes toes up.

well, a bit of good news....the fluid level is fine. right up at the fill hole. had a hell of a time getting it open though. about bust somethin (in myself) tryin to get it to turn. the fluid was a sorta murkey green color.

so, knowing theres fluid around the back of the tranny, would an input shaft bearing have anyhting to di with it? i'm dumb when it comes to tranny's. i told myself i wanted to learn more about them so i could work on it next time something happened...is there a bearing in the back that could be going as well perhaps? and letting fluid by? is there an easy way to check any of these minus dropping the tranny...

on edit, it still shifts fine, and feels ok to run, it just squeals. the pedel feels a little funny (but that could just be a heightened level of awareness at this point).

Good news on the oil level. I would get that 90 weight out of there and put ATF back in according to specs. It's too thick. An alternative lube, and the one that I use, is Redline MTL.
Does the squeal go away if you touch the clutch pedal, but not depress it?
Also does the tone of the squeal change if you put it in gear, and idle along in first or second?

I have no idea, but your owner's manual should list it somewhere.
Good luck.
