Greetings

Hey everyone.

Just joined this site after looking at it for a few days and saw some interesting/helpful info. I recently purchased a 1977 F100 Custom, in need of some TLC. A long time friend of the family(who worked at a Ford Dealership back when this truck was brand spankin new), who has been a friend of the family about as long as i have been alive, is going to help me do major work to it (oil pump/distributor) and the little stuff, tune up and maintenance I can do, and hope to make this a learning experience for the harder stuff. It also will need a shock (i think, somethin's broken under there, i *think* it's a shock). It has it's fair share of dents and surface rust, but much to my surprise(and delight), a lot of the "rust" is actually sap with dirt caked on it. Anyhow, the rust that is there is minimal, and I can live with dents, I'm only concerned with getting it running and driveable right now.

It has a 302 and an FMX transmission.

I've been wondering about the transmission, I have heard that while it's a medium duty, it has less problems than the light or heavy duty transmissions.. what I'm wondering is, how does it do at interstate speeds?

it came with a new set of tires, 5 spare rims(4 have ok tires), 3 extra carburetors, an extra radiator, and a butt load and a half of brake parts (which I of course know nothing about, and some other little stuff...oh and for irony??? one hubcap. 9 rims...and one hubcap....

I haven't checked to see if the 8-track works or not, would be neat if it did.

I have all the parts for the major repairs now, just waiting on time for my friend to come over and give me a hand, hopefully that will happen on Monday.

A little about myself...
I'm currently driving an 86 town car, but missed having a truck, which led me to purchasing above mentioned truck.
In the past i've owned 2 F100's (65&72), 2 rangers (86&93) and some other stuff not really worth mentioning.

a few general questions.
What is the difference in models, like the custom/explorer/whatever else there is?
Is anyone from the TN/AR/MS area, Memphis Metro and the like?
If so, where are some good junk yards for parts(namely a hood, and the inside of the glove box), know of any cheap glass shops? good mechanics?(the one i usually use is mainly a muffler/brake shop, and the best mechanic they have had to find a job closer to his home cause of gas prices)

um... I have a cat, rat, ball python, and betta splendens.. I enjoy long walks in the park, and intelligent...wait wrong site....

anyhow, I'm looking forward to learning more from this site, I just can't stay away from it hehehe.
