I'm looking to add an amp to the existing system and possible a sub. any suggestions from you guys who have already done this?? I have an 05 CC with the 6disk indash that I want to keep. Tks
I would upgrade the stock speakers, add the JL Audio stealth sub and put a couple of amps in there. I think you will be quite suprised by the sound, everyone that rides in my truck comment on the good sound.
bdjupiter, your a man after my own heart. I have JL Audio all the way round. four 5x7s, 1 12" sub & Amp. EVERYONE loves to ride in my truck. Panasonic MXE head unit. Never buy anything other than JL Audio again.
It really doesn't take much money to blow away the stock systems; you'll probably be pleased. I have two 300W JL Audio amps, one for the two front door speakers, the second for the 2nd row, and a single channel 500W for a sub box. Been in the truck since 2000 and quality is great -- I personally don't think you can go wrong with JL Audio amps & subs.
I remember reading somewhere that ford gives something like $5 each for the stock speakers; or something silly like that.
I have an Infinity Bass Link T behind the seat. Works great. Also Infinity componets front and rear. I kept the stock radio/6 disk. Only issue I have is I couldn't find a way to attatch the amp turn on lead. I use a seperate switch.
I, like tvsjr, would LOVE to put my two JL 10W0's behind the rear seat of my CC.....but the room back there is stupid-small. The same box I have that I used in my 73, 76, and 95 CC won't fit back there. HOW DO YOU DO TWO TENS BEHIND THE REAR SEAT?!??! UGH!!
Can you cut out the seat frame and integrate the seatback into a box? I had to cut the frame of my rear seat in my SC to make room for my amp and it didn't interrupt the integrity of it at all. I'm assuming you already checked under the seat. I don't have much room under my seats with my tool bag and highlift jack base so I had to get something else. I ended up with the Q-Logic center console for the extended cabs. I know that doesn't help out you CC folks but you can make something similar to it. As far as upgrading the speakers, skip it. I have a PPI 6 channel amp with 3 built in crossovers (Ax606.2) and my factory door speakers sound amazingly good. I'm pushing a max of 100 watts through these and ran only high freq's in the fronts and mid's in the rears. My sub is a JL 10 getting about 200-250 watts. Nobody can believe that there's only one 10 in there with factory speakers in the doors, it's all how you build it. If you need something that'll pound your head off and blow out your ear drums, just make sure you purchase/build a box that's to specs with your sub and use crossovers! My head unit is a AVIC-N1, which also has a built in crossover to help filter out unwanted frequencies.
V10MAN- I believe there's a solid yellow wire under the steering column (might be different on '05) that you can tap into for the amp turn on. If it's not the right one, take a test light and turn the key to the various positions to get the correct wire to tap into. All you need for that turn on lead is a on/off 12v source.
These guys carry quite a few speaker boxes but I haven't seen them or used them, just something I ran across on the net.

Sub enclosures - anyone running one behind the rear seat? Pix and ideas please!
A friend of mine has a crazy set up. No pics though. He CUT a hole in the back of the cab and front of the bed in a super cab. He then inserted a box that hard mounted to the cab, but not to the bed for obvious reasons. I believe he was running MTX subs. I've never heard a bettter sounding system throughout the range. AC/DC to Zappa and everything in between, it sounded incredible. When the seats are in, you would never know it was there.
Interesting. I'd like to avoid cutting any more holes in the cab and bed... I've already got a 4.5" diameter "pass-through" to run control cabling for the communications equipment, antenna coax, etc. as all of my radio decks are mounted in the bed (under a topper, of course).
Killaford, thanks for the link. I'll have to get the dimensions from them to see if I can make it play.
