Does anyone know if a '76 Supercab is supposed to have shoulder straps or not? Someone has rigged up straps by riveting bare belts to the door post with three rivets!
My 78 has the shoulder straps, with the retractor on the post. My 76 s/c has the retractor on the floor. What am I supposed to have?
Is there provision to convert to shoulder straps properly? (i.e. hardware in the door post to anchor the retractor)
The 76 has 2 retractors. One on the floor for the lap belt. One on the side of the cab under the front corner of the supercab window for the shoulder belt. Above the occupant's shoulder there should be a bracket that the shoulder belt loops through. It then goes down and is permanently attached to the lap belt. I'm guessing if you removed the riveted belt you would find 1 bolt hole approx 3/4" in diameter. This is the mounting bolt for the shouler strap hanger. The shoulder strap retractor is behind a trim panel just below the supercab window.
You have been quite helpful, Supercab! I found two trim panel covers below the supercab windows, but it is just a cover over what is probably just a hole... On the driver's side, there is a hole between the driver's door and cab window, with a rubber plus in it. The rivets on that side are below that plug. The passenger side does not have that hole above its rivets, and I am pretty sure there is no hole there, either... The hole on drivers side is just a hole in the sheet metal... Is that all is used for the shoulder loop?
Better yet, do you have a way to send me a picture of both setups? It seems like this truck never had the full restraint system, even tho the manual didn't say anything about it being optional.
Thanks again!
