I was hoping that a 3rd party maker made an LED conversion for the clearance lights on the 99-04 Super Duties. Looking to add more lights to the ol' dually (like the 18 wheelers) and am hoping to go all LED. I think that half LED and half incandescent.
If you're talking about the cab clearance lights on the roof, I think RECON, a sponsor here, makes some LEDs for the roof, in clear lenses too. Might want to check them out.
There was another string on this and some guys got tickets from using the clear lenses. Just be careful about your state law and color of lights if you want to go the clrear route.
Most states control the use of white lights... for instance, unless specifically allowed (reverse lights, LP lights, etc.), white is restricted to authorized emergency vehicles only here in TX (and even then it's general practice that we only that to cover wig-wags since white's very much blinding at night).
I've not seen any laws from any of the states prohibiting you from adding a clear lensed light (within reason... don't go adding a clear-lensed lightbar) as long as the emitted light isn't white.
With LEDs, the light output is colored - lenses aren't needed as they are in halogen lights. I would make the assumption that DC-9 is looking for amber LEDs... thus a clear lens would look nice (let us know if you do it - I've considered the same conversion for my truck).
I have LEDs for my tail lights. I love em. I wopuld like the LED 3rd brake light from Recon. But The light with shipping is about $160. That's a lot for one light. The LEDs in the tail lights will need either a new flasher or a relay to go with it. they were not cheap either.........
Yeah, I want the lights to stay amber! I'm trying to go for the 18 wheeler feel. I'd really like to get all LEDs for the factory clearance lights and then add a whole bunch of LEDs on the running boards, and on that "skirt" on the front of the trucks, below the bumper on the front.
