Did a search but didn't find anything helpful. I have a 95 f-150 XL winter daily driver and a 90 f-150 XLT Lariat yard truck. the 4x4 shifter on the 90 has kind of an offset pattern to it, strait back is 4 high, to the left and back is Neutral, and then back and to the right is 4 Low, can't be knocked out of 4 low, and can't be accidentally shifted from 4 high to 4 low.
My 95 however all the points are in a line, with somewhat crappy detents so if I want 4 high, I need to pull back, then push forward, then pull back all while trying to get it to sit between a set of detents.
Now my question. Can I take the shifter assembly from the 90 and place it in the 95, and put the 95 unit in the 90 (still need it for the yard, but stays in 4 low most of the time.)
You should be able to swap the shifters, as long as the shifter goes through the floor in the same location on each truck. Based on experience with my '87, my shifter from a C6 trans goes through the top of the transmission tunnel, and the shifter from a ZF 5-speed goes through the side of the tunnel.
If both trucks have the same transmission, you shouldn't have a problem.

They are both m5od transmissions with I6 engines, the shifter is in exactly the same place. I guess I know what I will be doing this weekend. :-)
